General Election 2019

Labour’s candidate & Witney’s next Member of Parliament

Cllr. Rosa Bolger: Leader of Witney Town Council and District Councillor for Witney East.

Labour’s Rosa Bolger Welcomes Green Standing Down for Progressive Alliance, Urges Third Place Lib Dems to do the Same

“Most people who want to see the Brexit-obsessed Conservatives defeated in this Election will welcome the decision of the Greens to stand down. I now urge the Liberal Democrats, who came third in the last General Election and fourth in 2015 to step aside. Only Labour can beat the Conservatives in Witney Constituency.

“I am the first ever woman leader on Labour-run Witney Town Council, and as a Councillor on West Oxfordshire District, I am immersed in the issues that concern our residents: long waits for GP appointments, huge class sizes and overworked teachers, empty shops on our high streets, and dreadful traffic on our roads. As a councillor I led the campaign to Save Cogges Surgery. I  chaired the first Climate Emergency public meeting in Witney and I know as your MP I can make a difference all year round as part of a reforming and radical Labour Government.

“As someone who has always campaigned to Remain in Europe, I want to see a close relationship with our EU neighbours to protect jobs and rights.  We recognise the need to give the people of Witney a final say on a new deal which Labour will negotiate. We have the ideas and energy to transform our country through and beyond Brexit.”

Rosa is a West Oxfordshire District Councillor and in May 2019 became the first woman Leader of the now Labour controlled Witney Town Council.

At her roots, Rosa is a community activist committed to fighting inequality and promoting a society of Labour and Co-operative values based on solidarity, tolerance and respect. Last year, Rosa led the Save Cogges Surgery campaign, successfully preventing the closure of a GP surgery in Witney. Rosa is equally committed to tackling the effects of the climate crisis. She chairs the newly formed Climate and Bio-diversity committee on Witney Town Council working hard to reverse air pollution, reduce traffic and make our towns and villages happier, healthier places to live.

Rosa is a graduate of the Jo Cox Women in Leadership programme, a mother to two young children, a reluctant runner, but most of all looking forward to being your voice in Westminster.
